The escalation of fraudulent insurance claims, in its different forms, is a serious problem to insurance companies and their honest policyholders.

For this reason and in your interest, our Specialist Investigation Unit was established during late 1995 in Johannesburg. The Unit which has been highly successful, has since been expanded and is now represented by highly qualified and trained investigators in the following major centers – Bethlehem, Bloemfontein, Cape Town, Durban, East London, Ermelo, George, Johannesburg, Kimberley, Klerksdorp, Nelspruit, Paarl, Pietersburg, Port Elizabeth, Pretoria, Pietermaritzburg, Rustenburg and Welkom. The main function of the Specialist Investigators is to investigate and verify the circumstances of an incident, which results in a claim, where the need arises. They are also focused on the recovery of stolen property or money fraudulently gained from the Company.

In close co-operation with the SAPS and other agencies, significant successes have been achieved in the investigation of the following:

• Theft of motor vehicles
• Hijack of motor vehicles
• Housebreaking incidents
• Arson and fire related incidents
• Robbery
• Theft
• Industrial accident/damage
• Fraud of any nature
• Motor vehicle accidents

Should the Unit become involved in your claim, it does not necessarily imply that fraud is suspected as it could be for any one of the other abovementioned reasons. However, the Unit and its members are committed to combating insurance related fraud and malpractices, thereby preventing the fraudster from being sponsored by you, the policyholder, who in the long term is forced to pay higher premiums.
